Hi.

Welcome to the latest art to emerge from the contemporary visionaries as seen through the eyes of Platinum Cheese.

Studio Visit with Zio Ziegler

Recently, our good friend Brock Brake visited the studio of Zio Ziegler as the artist prepared for "Painting is the Pattern", a duo show with fellow artist Pierre Roy-Camille unveiling March 6th at Jules Maeght Gallery. The title for the exhibit comes from the Francis Bacon quote “Painting is the pattern of the nervous system being projected on canvas” and echos Ziegler's energetic and spontaneous aesthetic. His bold paintings are clearly distinct and yet familiar as his recurring tribal and modernist motifs evoke notions of Picasso and Leger. In this exhibit, Ziegler also takes inspiration from Théodore Géricault's "Raft of Medusa" with a large scale painting of the same name. “I am interested in paying homage to past images and actively engaging and displacing art historical references, such as with "The Raft of the Medusa", an oil painting of 1819 by the French romantic painter and lithographer Théodore Géricault that I have re-visited specifically for this exhibition", states Ziegler. "Géricault’s "Raft of the Medusa" not only includes a portrait of Delacroix in it and references so many other painters before him, but it influenced future painters the likes of Turner and Courbet and Manet. As a painting it is already an allegory of painting.” Take a peek below of the new work by Zio Ziegler and be sure to visit Jules Maeght Gallery this month to experience the paintings in person.
