Caleb Hahne 'Beyond the Veil' @ Rule Gallery

Over the years, burgeoning newcomer Caleb Hahne has turned heads in the art world with his utilization of technology and tradition techniques. With fine attention to the juxtaposition of softness and hardness, Hahne's works combined and contained separate components in a balancing act of adding and subtracting until an aesthetically pure whole image emerged. 

With his latest body of work entitled 'Beyond the Veil' at Rule Gallery, Hahne takes his process a step further. Inspired by John Baldessari, Clyfford Still, and Henri Matisse, the artist builds up his previous work to analyze the current state of contemporary figurative painting and his place within it. Imagination flows as his figures are adorned with blobs of pastel paint that simultaneously breaks down the imagery and reinvents it. Through this new work, the tension between representational figurative drawing and abstract mark making is explored and it's fantastic.
