Hi.

Welcome to the latest art to emerge from the contemporary visionaries as seen through the eyes of Platinum Cheese.

Opening Night: "20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz" and Robert Williams "Slang Aesthetics" @ LA Municipal Art Gallery

The LA Municipal Art Gallery was the place to be on Saturday night, as it opened its doors for Robert Williams' "Slang Aesthetics" and "20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz", a collaboration with Juxtapoz Magazine curated by Thinkspace's Andrew Hosner and Copro Gallery's Gary Pressman. As a founder of the magazine, it only made sense to show Williams' new body of work and the influence it has on the New Contemporary movement. He has been a patriarch for setting the tone for some of today's most innovative artists. His new works include 25 new oil paintings alongside a suite of drawings and a series of large-scale sculptures fabricated with the assistance of Gentle Giant Studios. "20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz" features close to one hundred artists who have been dignified on the pages of the magazine and contributed to its accomplishment in upholding the diverse and groundbreaking New Contemporary art movement. What began as an alternative art magazine, has now risen up to being the most widely distributed art publication in the world. It represents the revolutionary expansion beyond artificial boundaries that only praised "high" art. Juxtapoz has given a voice to young artists by allowing them to make accessible art about relatable cultural experiences and exploring identities and aesthetics.

Artists featured include Marco Mazzoni, Mark Ryden, Brian Viveros, Aaron Nagel, Audrey Kawasaki, Chet Zar, Christine Wu, Dave MacDowell, Jeff Ramirez, Josh Keyes, Natalia Fabia, Nicola Verlato, Tristan Eaton, and that's only to name a few! Even Dali and Warhol made an appearance thanks to Kazuhiro Tsuji's incredibly lifelike sculptures. Hundreds lined up for the opening night on Saturday and many more are making their way to see this incredible show. Both "Slang Aesthetics" and "20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz" run through April 19th at the LA Municipal Art Gallery, so don't miss out on viewing this highly-anticipated event in person. In the meantime, take a look at our opening night pictures.
