Tonight Peter Gronquist makes his debut at Joseph Gross Gallery with "The Great Escape", an exhibition that marks a departure from his signature taxidermy and firearm sculptures. Gone are the high production value of past works thereby giving way to a more experimental and raw focus that Gronquist describes as a "liberation". Included in this collection are abstract color field paintings that possess a visceral effect through their offhanded gestural movements. Also of note are his infinity boxes. Comprised with found objects of both the natural and man-made variety, the boxes are lit by LED lighting that compliment the ethereal glow of the artist's paintings. With "The Great Escape", Gronquist reveals a newfound inner sincerity, as opposed to the irony that dominated his earlier works. Take a peek at a few preview images below courtesy of the gallery. If you're in New York, make a point to stop by the gallery to experience these incredible works in person.
