The artist community is a close-knit group. When word spreads that one of our own is going through a life struggle, we band together in support to ease the emotional (and sometimes financial) challenges faced. Recently, photographer Robbie Lowery experienced just that when his wife was diagnosed and going through cancer treatments. Inspired by the love he and his wife received during this difficult time, Lowery felt compelled to give back to others affected by the horrible disease. The result, a group exhibit at Roq La Rue featuring over 25 artists where half of sales will be donated to three cancer research charities - the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "The title of the show, Unpredictable Gravity, was derived from the roller coaster of emotion that a family goes through after receiving a cancer diagnosis." states Lowery. "One minute you’re on top of the world and then it all comes crashing down. There are many ups and downs in the weeks, months, and years that follow, most of which are unpredictable. The path those tracks take aren’t always clear, but hopefully there are more ups as life careens forth."
