Emilio Villalba 'The Next Day' @ Modern Eden

Over the past year, San Francisco based artist Emilio Villalba has been hard at work in the studio exploring a more gestural, alla prima approach toward his portraits and the result is stunning.  'The Next Day' which recently opened at Modern Eden Gallery, is an elegantly unrefined look to these works, realized through the confident brushwork and the abstract reduction of form. 

‘My portraits are inspired by master works, as well as the contemporary human condition. They explore the dissonance created when the familiar is fractured and distorted by outside influence.’
