On May 26th, Last Rites Gallery will debut 'The Soul Never Sleeps', the second solo exhibition by LA based artist Chris Peters. In this latest exhibit, Peters continues his exploration for beauty in dark places through his signature still-life paintings reminiscent of the early 17th century vanitas masters. "I love that uneasy twilight place between life and death, between reality and unreality, between hope and despair." notes Peters. "I use the vocabulary of Vanitas and Catholic religious symbolism to tell the tale; all refer to the cycle of life, death and the promise of resurrection." In addition to the 12 paintings, Peters will premiere a short film during the opening that acts as the 13th piece for the show.
