In Tarot, there are 22 cards in the Major Arcana suit (or trump cards) with each representing three themes of the human experience: the realm of the material world, the realm of the intuitive mind, and the realm of change. The Lowbrow Tarot Project features 23 artists using their unique creative genius to depict the 22 Major Arcana (plus the card back) in the rugged glow of the lowbrow art movement.
Aunia Kahn, artist and curator, was inspired to launch the exhibition after the completion of her Silver Era Tarot deck. Knowing the arduous task of such a project, the concept took on a simpler incarnation: one artist depicting one card of the Major Arcana. The result is mesmerizing. Viewers can expect to see an exhibition culminating multiple mediums in different formats and styles.
The Lowbrow Tarot Project runs until October 31st, so if you’re in the area, be sure to check it out. For more info about the exhibit, visit LaLuzdeJesus.com.
